Leigh has certification and training in a variety
of modalities that he leverages to support change and
transformation in people he works with. Among them are:
Yoga:
Leigh is a certified Professional Level Kripalu Yoga
Teacher. He completed his 500 hour advanced training in 2008
and completed his 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training in a
month-long immersion program at Kripalu with senior Kripalu
instructors. Kripalu Center is the largest center for yoga
and holistic living in North America. Leigh is a registered
teacher with the Yoga Alliance (RYT-500), the Kripalu Yoga
Teachers Association, and the International Association of
Yoga Therapists. In 2007 Leigh was given the honorary title
Acharya which denotes significant spiritual and/or academic
achievement in the Kripalu lineage.
Yoga is among the oldest systems of health practiced today
and has been scientifically proven to reduce stress, lower
blood pressure, increase energy, strength and endurance,
peace of mind and so much more. Yoga is about the balance
and harmony of our whole being.Yoga is simply a
relationship.
The term Hatha is comprised of two words ha and tha.
Translated, ha represents the sun, prana, or the vital life
force energy and tha represents the moon, mind, or mental
energy. So, Hatha Yoga means the union of the pranic and
mental forces, which combined open doorways to higher
awareness. Most styles of Yoga - including Kripalu, Power
Yoga, Bikram Yoga, Ashtanga Yoga, Iyengar Yoga, and
Kundalini Yoga – stem from Hatha Yoga which is traced to
15th century texts. Kripalu means being compassionate in
Sanskrit (the ancient language of yoga); it is also the name
of Swami Kripalvanandaji or Kripalu; both Kripalu Yoga and
the Kripalu Center were named in honor of Swami Kripalu.
Leigh's work integrates yoga as a technology and resource
for creating awareness of and compassion toward our own self
as a step in the process of bringing greater awareness and
compassion to the world – even in the serious,
hard-charging, and results-oriented world of global
business. We're not talking about being a push-over, this is
about being grounded, clear and focused, able to draw on the
energy needed to deliver results and maintain a balanced way
of living.
Leigh brings focus to breathwork (pranayama), meditation (dhyana),
physical practice (asana), relaxation (savasana) both on the
yoga mat and in the busy moments of work/personal life.
Leigh provides yoga classes and integrates yoga into his
work (i.e., coaching, training, and keynotes) - what he
calls Yoga Moments™ that range from 1 to 5 minutes in the
flow of one's day. Examples include:
-
90 minute private yoga
sessions
-
Yoga Moments™ - 1 to 5 minute breaks to energize or relax or
focus
-
strategies to improve communication and balance in life
-
self-care tips (e.g., avoiding carpel tunnel, proper
alignment, breathing techniques to increase oxygen and
overall health)
-
coaching sessions to work on specific challenges
Count on Yoga: 38 Ways Yoga Keeps You Fit
Positional Release Therapy: Leigh holds both level 1 and
level 2 certifications in Positional Therapy. The body is a
magnificent network of moving parts, completely interconnected,
and when it comes to pain, 70 percent is muscular in nature.
Positional Release positions the pained muscle fibers in such a
way that they can "rest and reset" the muscle network,
effectively bringing the body back to wellness. Sessions are 60
or 90 minutes; many of the techniques are integrated into
coaching and/or seminar self-care programs that Leigh does. Most
techniques can be done in 2 minutes and many can be learned for
ongoing self-care.
Reiki: Leigh has been certified in the Usui
system of Reiki healing. Reiki is a technique for stress reduction
and relaxation that also promotes healing.
Reflexology: Leigh has been trained in
Reflexology, a modality that uses the application of pressure,
stretch and movement to the feet and hands to effect corresponding
parts of the body. Reflexologists view the feet and hands as a
mirror image of the body. By applying technique a reflexologist can
break up patterns of stress in other parts of the body.
Hypnosis: Leigh was trained in hypnosis
over 25 years ago. Hypnosis is a scientifically verified and
effective technique that can promote accelerated human change. With
Hypnosis we can create desired changes in behavior and encourage
mental and physical well-being.
Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP): Leigh has trained in
NLP, a powerful technology for creating healthy interpersonal
and intrapersonal relationships. NLP, as most people use the
term today, is a set of models of how communication impacts and
is impacted by subjective experience.
Holotropic Breathwork: Leigh trained over a
10 year period in Holotropic Breathwork, a process that uses a
prescribed set and setting to access non-ordinary states of
conscious through a format of intense breathing that includes
evocative music, art, focused energy release work, and integration.
Psychology/Psychotherapist:
Leigh has extensive training
and/or certification in Gestalt Therapy, Ericksonian
Hypnosis, Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive
Behavioral Therapy, and Berglarian Analysis (a process of
educating clients about the ways they repeat self-defeating
proclivities), Crisis Intervention
(National Crisis Prevention Institute), critical incident stress
(CISD/CISM), substance abuse, grief, inner child, object
relation (re-framing),
micro-counseling techniques, force-field analysis,
and behavioral assessment and intervention.
The student becomes the teacher: Leigh
serves as part of the Kripalu teaching faculty for Positional
Therapy Level 1 and Level 2 programs (dates: Oct 2007 and March
2008). Leigh has also created CDs and programs to help support
people on their personal journey in addition to his 1-on-1 sessions,
coaching, training programs, and keynote talks.
